Hudson County Sheriff’s Officers Arrest 25 Men in FBI Sweep

Twenty-five men wanted on a variety of charges were arrested this past weekend during a countywide sweep led by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies.

“Remember, our families wait for us,” Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari told the more than 80 officers on Friday when he urged them to be careful while taking the wanted men off the streets of Hudson County.

Other officers participating in the sweep were from the FBI, DEA, Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and other agencies.

Arrests were made in Guttenberg, Jersey City, North Bergen, Secaucus, Union City and Weehawken. After the 6 p.m. roll call, the officers, some of them armed with assault rifles, filed out of Hudson County Plaza in Jersey City and fanned out across the county.

Among the first to be arrested was Williams Holmes, 29, of Orient Avenue in Jersey City, on a warrant charging him with failure to pay child support. Numerous sheriff’s officers and FBI and DEA agents swarmed into Jersey City’s Hudson Gardens housing complex from several directions. They spotted Holmes in the courtyard and took him into custody, officials said.

Jose R. Rodriguez, 26, of Tyler Place in West New York, was arrested on a warrant for robbery and weapons offenses, officials said. Roberto Oliver, 43, of Hudson Avenue in West New York, was arrested on a warrant for aggravated assault, officials said.

While tracking down those wanted on warrants, Phillip Wiggins, 40, Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City, was arrested on multiple drug charges, officials said.

Arrested on warrants for bail jumping were Carlos Oquendo, 50, who resides at a drug facility in Secaucus; Union City residents Israel DeJesus, 23, and Rank Bagnato; and Jersey City residents Ralph Harris, 29, Antwan Rouse, 30, Michael Decker, 59, and Thomas Rodriguez, 51, officials said.

Others arrested were wanted on various warrants including failure to pay child support, failure to pay fines resulting from convictions, and violations of parole, officials said.
